weave and dye is a project by Dobrawa Brach Kaluzna.
I’m a textile artist and designer. My reflective practice is guided by the principles of making, learning, noticing and caring.
Underpinned by the experience of grief I reflect on the meaning of art and craft in the context of loss - personal, as well as biodiversity loss and climate crisis.
While working with natural materials and using traditional techniques of handloom weaving and natural dyeing I experiment to achieve desired aesthetics and to invite reflection and discussion. My work embodies concepts and is a visualisation of my research and theories; the artefacts are conceptual, they are open to interpretation, are suggestive and inquisitive.
Based in a beautiful seaside town on the East Coast of Ireland, I am inspired by the surrounding nature and influenced by the strong tradition of craft and making in Ireland.
I recently graduated with First Class Honours MA from Design for Body and Environment at National College of Art and Design in Dublin. I am a winner of the IDI Graduate Design Awards 2024 in the design research by practice category.
